A 48-year-old Assistant Boy Scout Scoutmaster is arrested and charged in connection with multiple child sex crimes. Vidal Torres Jr. of Carmen Avenue in Daytona Beach was remanded to the Volusia County Branch Jail on lewd or lascivious molestation charges.

Detectives with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office were notified of the allegations from the victim’s family. Torres Jr. was an Assistant Scoutmaster in the 14-year-old female victim’s Boy Scout Troop and a friend of her family.

The victim’s family reported the abuse in mid-November.

Over the course of the investigation, detectives were able to confirm the allegations. According to a social media post from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the incidents occurred outside sanctioned Boy Scout events. An arrest warrant was obtained on four counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

Torres’ employer told detectives that he took a leave of absence for a “family emergency”. Vidal Torres Jr. was apprehended on December 7, 2023, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Vidal Torres Jr. was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on a no-bond status.
