Where Is Prison Escapee Glen Chambers?

When Connie Weeks and Glen Chambers met for the first time, they fell for one another immediately. They hastily agreed to move in with one another and that would lead to turmoil for the 21 and 23-year-old. Their romance would rapidly transform into hatred and anger.

Everything would come to a head on January 22, 1975 when a morning argument led to a night of violence. Glen went to Connie’s workplace, Sarasota Lanes, on Fruitville Road in Sarasota and confronted her. He pulled Connie out of her car and dragged her by her hair until an off-duty officer intervened.

Glen would be arrested and charged with simple assault. Connie would tell police, “He’s going to kill me. He really is.” That opened the door for Connie and gave her an opportunity to escape but she would not. Connie would bail Glen out of jail before the couple returned home together.

From there, things would spiral out of control. Glen Chambers walks into the Sarasota Memorial Hospital with Connie in his arms at 10:50 PM. While he told nurses she had fallen in the shower, nobody believed it and Glen was arrested before he could leave the hospital.

He was subsequently convicted of 1st-degree murder before being sentenced to death. After sitting in the Sarasota County Jail for less than 2 months, Glen would work with other inmates to escape. He would stay on the lam for several days before finally being captured by authorities. It would not be his only escape attempt but his next one would be more successful.

By February of 1990, Glen’s death sentence had been dropped to life in prison and he had transformed into a model inmate. On February 21, 1990, Glen Chambers would attempt to escape from the Polk Correctional Institution. He would load himself into a box of furniture and another inmate would help hide that box.

When the delivery truck left the prison and headed for Daytona Beach, the driver would encounter stop-and-go traffic. This gave Glen plenty of time to remove his  clothes and escape from the delivery truck. The only trace left behind was his inmate outfit.

Glen Chambers has been on the run for more than 30 years. While he may be deceased, he could be anywhere. After the case was featured on shows such as America’s Most Wanted and In Pursuit with John Walsh, tips to police lead them to believe that Chambers could be in Coastal Alabama.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Glen Chambers is encouraged to call the US Marshals or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
