Grand Junction Police arrest suspect in auto theft incident on East Main Street after shelter-in-place order

On November 9, 2023 dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communications Center received a report of an auto theft in progress which occurred in the 2100 block of East Main Street. Police say an adult male stole a work vehicle that had been parked in the street before fleeing the area. The suspect drove into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed hitting a vehicle near 32 Road and D ½ Road. After crashing, the suspect fled on foot.

According to a press release, officers found the suspect in the area of 32 Road and Kennedy Avenue before taking him into custody. 36-year-old Garrett Digiallonardo was remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility for Felony Eluding, Auto Theft, and related charges. Clifton Fire responded to evaluate the suspect for injuries. No injuries were sustained in the incident, but a shelter-in-plate order was issued for residents in the area of 32 Road and Kennedy Avenue until officers apprehended Digiallonardo.
