Garden Grove Police Department finds deceased suspect following police pursuit and collision

According to a social media post from the Garden Grove Police Department, officers attempted to stop a brown pickup truck in the area of Harbor Boulevard and Westminster Avenue just before 4:30 PM on November 16. Police say the truck initially appeared to pull over but quickly accelerated leading to a police pursuit that traveled through multiple cities. During the pursuit, officers observed that the driver was in possession of a firearm.

When the suspect’s driving became reckless and posed a danger to public safety, officers discontinued the pursuit. The Garden Grove Police Department said a police helicopter continued monitoring the suspect’s vehicle which was involved in a traffic collision at the intersection of Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa.

Officers responded to the crash where they found the suspect vehicle blocked by the car it collided with and gunshots were heard. Police say the vehicle remained in drive causing the tires to deteriorate and spark a fire that engulfed the entire car. Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue responded and extinguished the fire.

A male suspect was found deceased from what authorities are calling a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was also located in the vehicle. At this time, the suspect has not been identified.
