Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs investigating US Park Police Officer-involved shooting

According to a press release from the DC Metropolitan Police Department, agents from the Force Investigation Team of the Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating a US Park Police officer-involved shooting that injured an officer and killed the suspect. Police say a United States Park Police officer and an individual exchanged gunfire in the 1100 block of M Street NW on November 22 around 2:30 PM. The officer and the suspect were shot and transported to local hospitals.

Authorities say the officer is listed in stable condition and is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. The other individual, who has been identified as 30-year-old Turell Delonte Campbell of Northeast DC, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Police say Campbell’s firearm was recovered at the scene.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigation Team. The facts and evidence will be independently reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office.
